A Letter to Our Users - Response to the Current Bug in 2.1 Update
Posted at: 22 Nov 22:48Note:
iOS 4.2 has been released today(Nov 22). We suggest all users upgrade their iPad to iOS 4.2. iNotes update 2.1 is working fine on 4.2.
Dear users:
We have noticed that the latest update of iNotes for iPad crashes on iOS 3.2. This update is mainly optimized for iOS 4.2, such as printing, multi-tasking and fast-switching. Just because of the focus on the new features and capabilities. We missed the compatibility bug on the iOS 3.2. We feel so sorry for the bug and the inconvenience this update brings you.
Here is our solution for the bug:
* An update already submitted on 16th. But still need few days to get approved.
* For the old users, if you need to use your previous notes, please try to connect your iPad to iTunes. And try to find your previously exported notebooks in the iTunes app shared folder.
* For those new users, please wait for our bug fix update or the release of iOS 4.2. The app works fine on iOS 4.2. We hope Apple can release iOS 4.2 this week.
We apologize for the trouble again. iNotes for iPad has been used and trusted by so many business professionals. We believe this trouble must be a very bad news for them. Our old users should know that we have been doing our best to bring users the best note taking experience on iPad. And we have improved our app in every update. This is an incident and a lesson for us. We hope all of you can understand and keep trusting iNotes for iPad in the future.
After this lesson, we have made up our mind to implement the cloud syncing service to let users access their notes anytime on any platforms, especially when the app is out of service. This feature should be implemented as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Anson Li
Creator of iNotes for iPad

Hi Anson,
I'm one of those business users who has really appreciated iNotes. It's a mistake & we're all human, but why release a version tested against an OS that hasn't been released yet?
Forget the cloud synching etc - just do releases slightly behind the iOS curve. Job done.
Oh, and drop reCAPTCHA
Posted by: ramsay at 16 Nov 22:16Is it true that Apple 4.2 will be released this week? How will we the consumer know and by what means will it be implemented?
Posted by: Darryl lowe at 17 Nov 03:27I can only agree with ramsay - releasing software optimized for an OS that isn't available yet and overlooking that it doesn't work with the current OS is silly.
Posted by: Roland at 17 Nov 18:12Unfortunately I was not so lucky........ I had a few pages of notes (very important) and lost them all. I'm pretty crushed !!!!!!!!! Now it won't even open up. Ugh!
Posted by: Al at 17 Nov 20:50Hi, Roland
It is a bug we didn't expect. Sorry, version 2.1.1 is submitted and will be out in a few days.
To Al:
Posted by: Anson Li at 18 Nov 01:48You won't lose your notes. Once you have version 2.1.1 updated or iOS 4.2 installed. You will have your notes back.
Hi Anson,
nobody expects bugs but shouldn't you test your software on the current OS? As it crashes the moment you open the App, it would have been VERY easy to spot...
When I posted my comment yesterday (17th), your letter said that the bugfix would be released to AppStore today (referring to 17th). Now your last version of the letter (posted today, the 18th, at 1:58, again says that the fix will be released today. Is this going to go on like this until OS 4.2 comes out (which is rumored to happen on the 24th)? I'm not impressed.

Update already submitted at the day 2.1 was released. The letter was written at that day. "Today" in the letter was 16th. We already worked on the fix as fast as we can. And it was submitted a few hours after the buggy 2.1 released. I will update the letter if it brings misunderstanding. Apologize for the mistake we made again. This is a biggest lesson to us.
Posted by: Anson Li at 18 Nov 14:55Thanks a lot... Had all my physics notes in there and now its just crashes, paid for this app now I need an immediate solution!! The update only fucked things up! Fix it
Posted by: Wow at 18 Nov 17:37Ridiculous of you guys to release an update that doesn't preserve peoples notes. Not sure I can ever trust it again. I lost some critical notes I have to re-create - can't wait for a fix.
Posted by: Mark at 18 Nov 19:20I have an important meeting and all my files are hung up. When is the fix coming? Forget 4.2... I need a solution. At least you should send to registered users this caution before we trustingly install the new "update"

Posted by: Clay at 19 Nov 21:10I appreciate you folks stepping up to resolve the problem. iNotes is one of my favorite apps - and continues to be so. I look forward to getting my notes back with the fix. And I also look forward to cloud synching. It's the one thing that Evernote has over iNotes. Hang in there.

After THE update I lost all my notes! Thank you!!!

Your notes are not lost. As long as you don't remove the app. iOS 4.2 has been released. You can upgrade your iPad to iOS 4.2. And you can find your notes back. Many of our users have upgraded their iPad OS and found their notes today.
If you can't upgrade to iOS 4.2, you can wait for iNotes 2.1.1 bug fix update. It should be approved and released tomorrow (Nov 23, 2010).

I use this app on my iPad in order to handwrite notes. However it is difficult to do so, when there's a delay seeing what I'm actually writing. Meaning it takes a few seconds for each mark to show up on the screen. Sonetimes pieces of my markings are missing. The result....a big mess!!! Is there anything that can be done in order to fix this problem? If so, what is it?
Posted by: Jenny Levitan at 13 Nov 02:36I have the lite version of iNotes and it keeps deleting my last entry every time I use it. There is no save button so I don't know if it has kept the info. I'm typing data every morning and when I re-open he app my last entry is missing
